compressor oil
I keep several gas powered wheelbarrow air compressors serviced for a local roofing company. They may be brought back after 200 hours or 600 hours for service so I decided to switch over to this for the extended service life and protection. One just came back after about 300 hours of run time. The magnetic drain plug was cleaner and the oil was not as thermally broken down as the regular oil previously used. The twin piston compressor also seemed quieter, I need to temp test the compressors, they run really hot and operate for 8+ hrs a day in the sun and rain.

QUESTION:
What is the multi weight of this oil?
posted by Dave Thuesen
ANSWER:
Its a fixed viscosity but with a very high VI index, allowing it to flow at very cold temps. It does not have variable viscosity per SAE grades.

QUESTION:
I have an old 80 gallon two-stage air compressor. Where I live, temperatures are occasionally -30F but the 'normal' cold days are -10F and warmer. Is the Kompressor ISO 100 applicable for my situation or should I use the ISO 46?
posted by Derek Weaver
ANSWER:
Both have a very low pour point. The 46 is around - 50 F the 100 is around -45F. You can probably use either but safest would be the 46.

QUESTION:
My HPA compressor (4500 psi) calls for IS0 VG 46 & AW 46 oil. Which would be the best choice, TRIAX KOMPRESSOR MV 46 SYNTHETIC or your TRIAX ATROS ™ Multivis HVLP 46 Synthetic Hydraulic AW?
posted by Keith Stanley
ANSWER:
The Kompressor synthetic would be our recommendation. Even though the hydraulic viscosity is the same, the additive system is not.
